What's the difference?

Go to solution Solved by Mug,

Z boards are for gamers etc, H boards are for normal people who don't wanna overlock (although some processors are cool with being overlocked on H boards.

There is no performance difference and very little feature difference, most people (like 95% of people) should get a H series board, it just depends on whether you wanna OC or not.

Hey guys! I have a question: What is the difference between the 3 Intel series motherboard chipsets? I'm asking about the H, Z and X series. I know that the X series is for the PC enthusiasts that want tons of expansion cards and all of the best hardware, and I know that the Z series is for the normal people, like casual gamers, light video editors, etc. But, what I was really wondering about is the H series boards. What are they? I saw a ASUS ROG commercial that advertized their new H97 gaming series, and that ad led me to believe that the H series is also good, because ASUS is using this chipset in the ROG series, so they must be good enough to game, right? So, please tell me if there's anything wrong about my current knowldege of the X and Z series, but also, please tell me about the H series. Thanks in advance!

the Z series are the overclocking motherboards. The H series are actually the standard ones.

I wouldn't say Z boards are for gamers per se. H boards are fine for gaming and the CPUs don't affect the overclocking ability - it's the function of the board itself.

It's basically a locked mother board (?) It's more for non-K processor...

So, you won't be able to overclock your processor and if I'm not wrong your memory too!

It was a simplification, but k...

Aso, who else would need a Z board bar gamers? Workstations don't need them (in industry, nobody overclocks) so who else?

So, is that non-overclocking just for the CPU, or for everything in the system?

ehh... Same thing

Tinkerers may be gamers, but gamers aren't necessarily tinkerers.
