Hello everybody,

I've been posting alot of topics in this sub forum but I'm just going to continue posting.

I have alot of problems with my laptop lately. I tried installing Windows but that failed so I installed ubuntu but that didn't work because my graphics card wasn't compatible with it. So now I tried to reinstall Windows thru another laptop but I can't seem to boot into the instalation program.

I have it on a usb stick and I have put the ISO on it. But when I start up my laptop with my usb selected as the first booting device in the BIOS but it just starts grub rescure.

I already formatted my drive with a standalone version of Gparted because I couldn't boot into Ubuntu like I've told before in this post. Is there a way so that I could get into the installer of Windows.

My system specs:

Acer Aspire 5742ZG

Intel Pentium 6200

NVIDIA GTX 420M

Greetings,

Tim

Can you format the drive in another pc so the grub rescue is deleted?

Did you format to NTFS? Also make sure you delete all partitions as partitions created in linux generally have compatibility issues with windows partitions. Although these issues would not stop the windows installer from running, I would check to make sure your CD/USB is good. (or the boot options)

Timmyethy123,

From the sound of it you have not setup you boot USB drive correctly. You can not just copy the ISO onto the drive some header files and partitions need to be configured and the file structure set up appropriately. Your easiest route is using the Windows 7 Download tool (regardless of which version you are installing) and follow the prompt.

Hope this helps.
