SPDIF is a digital signal and therefore supports 5.1 through a single cable. It's just data flowing through a cable.

hello hello,

Im using a Dac/Amp- SMSL sd 79311 and a set of Dt 990's Using the optical out on my MB . Rampage V extreme.

I have been reading that SPDIF does support 5.1 somehow ?

Can anyone enlighten me?

You can stream multi-channel audio using SPDIF. For non-encoded sources, you can enable DTS Connect (or Dolby Digital Live).

Hook the rig up to an AV Receiver (or any DD/DTS decoder) to get 5.1 Audio.
