Hello everyone -  so right now, I am using a single 1TB HDD and soon I am getting the 240GB Kingston Predator M.2 SSD. Since the Predator is a lot faster than a mechanical hard drive, I want to boot my OS on there. Is there anyway to do that without having to buy Windows again? Windows 8.1 is already on my HDD.

Thanks!

Do you have a key? If so you can use it again even if it's an OEM key or just a normal key.

Yes there is a way, cloning, but the capacity of the ssd may limit your options as the HDD is of  a larger capacity and what you have on it may be larger than the ssd's capacity.

I still have the key. When I got Windows 8.1, it came in a box with the key, 32-bit, and 64-bit discs.

On the SSD I was just going to put the OS, key applications, and some games.

Well I transferred my HDD install of windows 8 to my SSD so it should just work. (I did a fresh install).

So would I lose all my stuff? Sorry I'm not very good at this kind of stuff, so a step-by-step would be greatly appreciated!

On the SSD I was just going to put the OS, key applications, and some games.

Which is what i did but the size of my OS + key applications + games = 188gb or so. Another thing you should know is that formatted size of the SSD, normally a 250gb ssd will have like 235gb after formatting, so you need to calculate for 235gb and not 240gb.

The problem comes in when you try to clone data from the source driver that is bigger than the destination drive. you need to get a cloning software that allows you to omit data or you will need to remove the data some how on your own.

Ok. I'll try that. Like I said, the SSD hasn't come yet, so when it comes, I'll let you know how the operation went.

One more question - right now I have an Asus GTX 760 DC2OC and I run it at 4k. I can't really play any triple-a titles because the card isn't powerful enough. I was thinking about getting a 1080p monitor for my desk (4k monitor is in my room). How is the Dell S2340M? Also, would the 760 be able to run two of those monitors (total resolution of 3840x1080)? I want to get two because I play a lot of Flight Simulator.

Thanks!

I would honestly say fresh install. I have no doubt that it could be done, but you'll have things pointing in the wrong direction, it would be more hassle than it's worth.

It is a bit of a ball ache, but I'd say it's worth it.

Nah, I think you can dissociate the key from your Windows, do a fresh install and then just input the key.
