I vote for the Y50 as it's probably also got a good GPU and can be used for light-medium gaming if away from home.

ik the y50 is more towards gaming rather than work but the y50 has some crazy specs. although i wouldn't be using this laptop for gaming at all it will be strictly for work/school

Then X1 Carbon is the clear winner here... no need to lug around the extra weight for power you'll never use

Pick the one with better battery life. That will be the most useful spec for school work.

This is why I recommend the 5200U using integrated graphics. The thing has a TDP of 15 watts and can downclock itself to use 7.5 watts on power saving mode. I have recommended two of my friends to laptops with a 5200U and the things will run forever on one chrge. And they only cost around 500$-600$ for a decent laptop with one.

now i know the thinkpad has i believe 3 versions. which one should i get??? also my class is only 3 hours.. so i need it too last 3 hours which i believe every laptop can so that wouldn't be a problem. looking for more of performance than battery life

Anything with an SSD will give you the "performance" you're looking for to do classwork. Which versions are available? Do you have a link?

May I ask why you are only looking at Lenovo laptops?

Meanwhile there's my laptop and it's 3.5W N2830... a 15.6" laptop that gets 6-7 hours of battery life on the same battery capacity as a Note 4.

How much are you able to spend? Personally I'd upgrade to 8GB of RAM and the 256GB SSD, which brings the price to $1304.

$1500 would probably be max

Then yeah, I'd go for the customized option, and have the 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD for $1300 total

I have seen 8 year old thinkpads that are still going strong, so yea good choice then.

so im guessing the thinkpad x1 is my best bet.. now i just need to find a place to buy one with the right specs.

Intel ark says it's TDP is 7.5 watts.

Like how the 5200U is 7.5-15W, the N2380 is 3.5-7.5.

You can just upgrade the ram and storage yourself, and sometimes that's actually the cheaper route.

i would like the touchscreen model. but could opt for the one without it. and you can upgrade the ram in the x1???
