Ok, so 4 years ago I finally upgraded from my horrible Phenom 1 X3, DDR2 RAM with an HD4870 to a far more powerful i3 2100, 4GB of DDR3 1333, and a GTX 460. But this is starting show its age and the GTX 460 wasn't much of upgrade. I'm now to the point where I want to upgrade.

Here is the dilemma. Right now I'm certain my GPU and RAM is holding me back. I've just ordered 2, 4GB Ripjaw sticks (also 1333) to upgrade from 4GB to 8GB (with better timings) so that addreses the RAM issue. Next, do I replace the MB/CPU for an 1150 and maybe an i3 or try and find a more powerful i5 2500.

I really dont have that much in the way of a budget, and I dont play that many 3D games, Right now the most "modern" game I play is World of Warships, and I can push 50 FPS on medium settings with my current rig.

If I upgrade the CPU here is the build list

All I would be upgrading is the CPU, MB, and GPU, plus adding in the current 4GB of RAM into the current board.

Thoughts on this. Also, if I could find a i5 2500 for about the same price as a 4160, the 2500 would beat the snot out of the 4160, but I'm still limited to the H61 chipset and only 2 RAM slots.

You don't need an aftermarket CPU cooler if you cannot overclock even then, that one probably isn't worth the money. 8gb of ram is good enough.

Used 2500s can be had for a good price, and the performance is still good when overclocked.

The aftermarket cooler I already have, just showing what I would have.

Yeah, searching E-bay I can find decent 2500's for about the same price as a Haswell i3. The problem is the board I have. Would PCI-E 2.0 bottleneck an R7 370 or should I look at swapping out the board too?
