Hey guys this is my first time posting here but I figured it might be one of the best places to actually post something especially if I need help.  I am looking to start twitch streaming as well as posting videos to youtube but my current rig at home is not quite getting the job done for me.  I really want to keep the cost below 2000$ U.S so if anyone has any suggestions please tell me.  Like i said before I need to be able to record games at a good framerate at at least 1080p and as well be able to edit videos later on.

i7-4790K, 16GB RAM 1800MHz, GTX 970, 250GB SSD, 2TB HDD (for footage), 650W PSU.

Id make a PC Partpicker but i need to go :P. That is the basis you should work off.

i7 for rendering. NVidia GPU for nvidia ncoding (shadowplay) it makes wonders for livestreaming and recording. Excellent quality (up to lossless RAW recording without losing any performance). 250GB for OS and games and 2TB for the footage. 650W for overclocking headroom, never bad to have it, get 700 if you think you might get a 970 for SLI sometime. I personally have it set up with OBS.

Look for trusted brands MSI, gigabyte, EVGA, corsair, NZXT... and pick the case/color scheme aesthetics that suits you the most :^P

Do you need OS and rest of things or just tower?

Do you live near a micro center? If yes you will want a 5820k X99 rig.

If not then you gotta decide between 5820k-x99 and 4790k-z97. For your usage of twitch streaming and video rendering the 6 core 5820k is a lot better option but it's also more expensive.

Even for this, x99 is still isn't worth being considered. The 4790k, or even the 1231v3 which is an I7 minus igpu, will still perform amazingly, and for alot less.

1st) With Microcenter it's not a lot less.

Cpu is only 20 extra at MC

DDR4 RAM is 60-70 extra (per 16GB)

Mobo is roughly 100 extra.

Also Microcenter has a cpu/mobo combo that takes 30 off.

So we could be talking about only 150 extra.

6 cores v 4 cores makes a huge difference when it comes to rendering.

2nd) with a 2k budget he could afford a 5820k even without any deals.

Hyperthreading. Addtionally, the value is still much worse. You might get faster rendering times, but it'd be at a good deal more pricey. And what your talking about is best case scenario. Life has a habit of screwing you over, so the more money you can save, I would say for the better. But like you said, he can afford it, so it's on him to decide.

Hyper threading works for 6 cores as well and gives you 12 virtual threads.

I built a 5820k rig when haswell-e just came out and it cost me about 300 extra at that time compared 4790k. No regrets at all and now the price gap has narrowed.

Also I take it you haven't seen the rendering benchmarks. 5820k murders 4790k when it comes to rendering.

Lastly his twitch streaming will be a lot more stable with those extra cores running his software in the bg.

adogsnyder99,

I would say all the suggestions are good and have their merits.  For the X99 versus Z97 debate the main debate is price.  For streaming performance I would put them on par if not giving more to the 4790k due to Quicksync capability (see link below).  Final editing they will perform similar but final rendering and exporting of recorded video is where they will differ and the 5820k will win due to having 50% more threads.  This is of course assuming both are overclocked to similar speeds as at their stock speeds would be a much narrower difference.  So the choice comes down to for about $250 more is faster final rendering and exporting of edited video worth it?  That is a personal choice for you to decide.

Hope this helps.
