New camera

I currently have a GoPro Hero 4 black. It gives good quality video for the price, but the lack of controll is ruin it for me.

I want a camera where I got more controll, as I'm used to more highend cameras when I film freelance, but its hard to borrow a camera all the time.

So I have looked around for a $1000 or so camera that has some more controll, but also good quality video.

The new Panasonic Lumix G7, seems like a good choice, but might as well check with everyone her first.

I would look at the Canon 70D, I can't think of another one that is good at that price point. It is not a great price point IMO better to look a bit higher if you can.

I will look into how it compares to the G7.

I didnt plan on getting a camera now, as I'm building a pc, but as I want to document the building, so did it end up that way.

The GoPro is probally good enough for it, but its a pain in the ass to use, as I have zero controll over the resoult. Not to mention that I need to use my phone to check the framing, which drains the battery on both really fast.

Have you looked at protune yet?

Protune lets me select a few options yeah, but it has no where near same amount of control as you would have with say the G7.

Using the GoPro is kind of like using the full auto setting on most cameras, it works but you can do nothing more then praying that the camera does a good job.

Plus fisheye dont look good when you want to focus on details.

Main issue with MFT is poor low light capabilities

There dont seem to be any full frame cameras in that price range, so its most likely the best I get.

Sony A7 is $1200 body only

APSC also has slighly better low light, but you will lose 4k for most models

The G7 is a great camera, I was just pointing out what I feel is the main weakness of MFT sharpness, IQ, the range of lenses to choose, the build quality is all great et and it takes decent video

but its images and low light lack compared to an APSC or Full Frame camera,

I didnt mean to sound down about it :D

It seems that Sony A7 is a step down in video quality, as the sensor in the G7 is the same as in the GH4.

So it seems that I cant get much better video quality for the money, unless I find a used one or get a good deal somewhere on a better camera.

I would not call it a step down, (beside resolution) ive been filming my reviews on it and other stuff too

yeah its basically a budget GH4, which makes it extremely good value for money, as you say sub $1000 its a great deal, and MFT glass is quite reasonably priced too which is a bonus

I will call it a step down, as we are talking 28Mbps on the A7 vs 100Mbps on the G7, as best quality on video option.
