so i want to OC my CPU its a x4 760k base if 3.8 and max turbo of 4.1. so i dont want to wreck my cpu so i used catalyst control i did the test and it said i could OC up to 4.1 but max is 4.1 so i put the slider bar to 4.1 and clicked apply then i look in HWmonitor even after gaming but my clock speeds in it still say 1809MHz for all my cores is there any good 3rd part software to OC it i dont want to do it in the bios because i looked up how to and that's just to muck for me because of my anxiety. i cant do it because you have to do voltage and all this stuff.

and why do my clock speeds still say 1809 if i put it at 4100 in catalyst? and i did press apply

You don't overclock your CPU in catalyst, you do so in the BIOS.

Which catalyst are you talking about? The AMD Catalyst suite?

AMD catalyst control center

Can you post a quick picture of what you're dragging?

Because it sounds like you're overclocking your GPU instead of your CPU.

thats interesting, I've never heard of Overclocking in catalyst before, and that's because your CPU is probably running too hot to go any higher, despite what AMD says, its possible to get 4.1 just not maintain it because of Thermal Throttling, your CPU is probably running too hot, just open Core Temp while in game, and check the temperature and post what the max temperature you've got while gaming is.

did you try Overclocking in the Bios then? b/c I wouldn't trust catalyst for reliable overclocks, if you Overclock you should do it yourself so you know you've got it right; by the sounds it; if you screw up you can clear Cmos, so its not the end of the world, you have a rare chance of Over volting your processor, its hard to do that :L despite its appearance is nice inside, you'll get use to it fast, just watch a few videos

Edit

I also do not know what you mean when you say "and its really CPU overdrive that is being OC in what I hear people use that." its impossible to OC a program; things like Asus AI Suite do it for you, not sure how so, just watch a few video's on how to overclock for your specific board its not really that hard.  I mean the only logical explanation for your CPU to decrease in speed is because its throttling if it wasn't stable it would usually crash, which the program should make it stable,  the only thing that I can think of is throttling; anything else then that I would see if you have the latest driver version and try again if its out of date, if not contact AMD tech support, they should be of more assistance
