Ok so this was years ago and I don't remember if the problem was one thing or another. So here's the story (as best I can remember, also keep in mind that this was before I knew ANYTHING technical about computers). My old toshiba laptop has an intel celeron cpu with either 2 or 4 gb of ram and a 500gb hard drive. I updated the laptop software daily, and one day I come across a (what I think might have been a bios update within windows, but I don't remember for sure). Anyway, I update it and my computer freezes right in the middle of it. I wait a long time and decide to hold down the power button to shut it down. I turn it back on and nothing ever shows on the screen. The warranty is up on the laptop so if it breaks from an attempted fix then it breaks. So, what do you guys think the problem is? Is it fixable? How would I/someone go about it to attempt to fix it? Thanks for any replies!!!!

PS: I ask because I want to give the laptop to someone who could really use it.

If the BIOS is messed up in a laptop, I don't think there's anything you can do.

If you could find one on eBay with a broken screen or something for cheap you could swap the motherboards, or if replacement motherboards are cheap you could get one of thoes.

Call up there customer support just to be sure that they don't have a removable bios chip.

Question, how do I remove a stripped laptop screw?
