Hey guys i got the beta version of Handbrake that lets you encode videos in h.264 with an AMD GPU. Im having a problem with this, i selected OpenCL Support and HWD Support in the handbrake application, but when i press start, my CPU usage jumps up to like 90-100% and my GPU usage remains at 0%. I have an AMD Radeon 7770 GPU and a Intel Core i5-3570k proccessor. while encoding with h.264 set to "placebo" mode (i love small file sizes:D) it encodes at a rate of about 90 FPS. Im sure with the GPU i can get more correct? anyway, hope someone can help me with my problem, thanks in advance.

Because encoding with CPU is slow.

You should check the changelog, it's not 100% accelerated with OpenCL and HWD Support option only make it slower.

What is accelerated

  • OpenCL-accelerated "crop and scale" filter. Performance gains will only be seen if you are downscaling content, e.g. 1080p to 720p.
  • Hardware-accelerated decoding using DXVA2. Please note that this feature is Windows-only and only works on sources which we decode via Libav (DVD, Blu-ray and MPEG Transport/Program streams can't use hardware-accelerated decoding).

Future Builds

Will include x264's OpenCL-accelerated lookahead. We don't have an ETA for this yet, but it should be in the not so distant future.

How to use it

For the Windows GUI, there are two new checkboxes under the "Output Settings" section.

  • One for OpenCL
  • One for Hardware Decode.

Fro the command line interface, there are two new options:

-P Use OpenCL cropping and scale
-U Use UVD hardware-accelerated decoding via DXVA2
