Hi all,

This is my first post so please be gentle :-) I have been a long time fan of linustechtips and I know you guys are the ones to ask about PC builds. I have a good friend who is looking to do a budget PC build with the most performance she can get and I wanted to see if we could get you guys input.

The core i7 is pointless in gaming over the i5.

Why not get z97 board.

Get the 980ti from the money you saved from going to the core i5.

Watercooling a CPU is stupid unless she plans to overclock, even then it's more cost-effective to put money into the graphics card. The 980 is in a garbage place for price-performance since a 390x will perform the same or better at $200 less. z87 is outdated now. If you want to save $100 get an i5-4690k instead, gaming performance will be EXACTLY THE SAME

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($328.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($146.98 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($97.95 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card  ($689.97 @ B&H)
Total: $1616.65
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
