so I've heard that windows 10 combines vram, and I was planning on getting a second GTX 970 in the future

does that mean I will get 7 gigs of vram? since the 970 has technically 3.5 gigs of vram

DX12 supposedly does, not W10 directly, but DX12 isn't exactly used yet nor will it be for a while.

No you will have 4gb and that's all also

4+4 = 8

I think it depends on how the game was coded.

There is no 100% on that. Basicly romours, but its possible.

It will only combine VRAM if the game using DX12 is specifically coded so that VRAM is stacked, it just doesn't do it by itself. The dev has to implement it manually.

The 970 has 4GB, but it's split into two parts: a 3.5GB part and a 0.5GB part. You still have 4GB vram, "technically" and otherwise.

Theoretically it could if the patch contained files that affect the game's use of DX12.

Its a DX12 feature but has to be coded into the game itself.

 

Which I doubt will happen nearly as much as we'd like, because of the <insert false excuse> argument from Microsoft and Nvidia.
