Does having 2 routers between my pc decrease internet speed?

Go to solution Solved by 79 Potatoes,

When your PC is the only device connected to that network:

-You might or might not lose bandwidth, that just depends on the routers

-Higher ping (not by much), because you added a second router before reaching your PC

So I changed my internet provider, and unfortunately they only have 1 ethernet port on the modem.

Because of this I have to use a 2nd router to fill up the ports. Before I changed providers I already had 1 router in the lving room for the ethernet ports.

My pc is also in the living room and is connected to the 2nd router, which means my setup is: modem -> router 1 -> router 2 -> pc.

Does this decrease performance?

I did a test with speedtest.com and my speed is alot faster then I expected, but could it be faster with just 1 router connected?

Its only a couple of MBIT's if it does, and don't complain, I have to live with 400kb/s

I am wired. The wire goes from the modem to router 1, under the ground to the living room to router 2, and then to my pc.

I dont complain. i was just wondering if it decreases performance if the pc is connected through 2 routers

The second router will just act like a switch :)

We have two routers here, one upstairs and one downstairs, I use the second router as a wireless access point as well as a direct link from my PC to the first router and then the modem.

This is a signature.

Any extra hop will impact performance

Why not just connect through your old router... It's just settings.

My pc is connected through my old router. And my old router is connected to the new router, which is connected to the modem. Like I said, our new modem only has 1 internet port so I have to use an extra router to get all the ethernet ports I use

Come to the netherlands. Our internet is godlike. Everybody has 50MBPs or above.

My new provider was actually a downgrade/upgrade. First we had 120/12.5 now we have 100/100 (which is slightly higher on speedtest for some reason :)
