So buying RAM within the operating frequency of your mobo's specs should always be compatible, right? my mobo is 3200mhz+ and the new kit im getting is 2x 2x4GB  at 2400mhz. the ram i have now is 1600mhz, the motherboard should boot up to say I have installed new ram and boot normally after that yeah?

so the kit i have now is a 4x4GB kit 1600mhz ripjaws, the ram im getting (maybe) is 2x 2x4GB kit(s) at 2400mhz. ripjaws I have noticed that the timing and voltages are different but my mobo says it supports 3200+ mhz and the same timing e.g 11-13-13-31-2 (ram i want) and  9-9-9-24(ram I have)

and actually how important is ram timing and does my mobo adapt to the different timings etc.

by the way the reason im getting new ram is colour and an opportunity to sell my ram came up. I want blue as that actually goes with my build.

try and find the manual for your mobo online they usually have ram compatibility lists. You are likely safe but I try to stick with them just to remove possibility of errors.

my manual says the timings and voltages are fine but it doesnt have the exact kit I have, I'm sure g.skill has 2x4 and 4x4gb kits exactly the same.
