i7 2600k - will this bottleneck modern games if i slap on a 980Ti?

Nah it probably won't be a bottleneck, if it is it will be very small. It's a little bit worse than a 4690k from my understanding, and a 4690k won't bottleneck almost anything

Hi

Ive got an old gaming rig that im thinking of converting to a home theatre pc to plug into my 4k tv.

Im wondering if its worth my money to upgrade my graphics card to run 4k to match my tv.

This is what i have so far

i7 2600k (Stable overclock at 4.4GHZ)

Asus P8Z68-V Pro MB

16GB Corsair Veng Ram

2x GTX480 SLI

The rest doesnt really matter

If i were to replace my GTX480s with a single (for now) GTX 980Ti, do you guys think my older CPU and Mobo will bottleneck the system in a noticeable way?

I would rather recycle an old computer and throw $1300 NZD at a GPU rather than refreshing Mobo and CPU and spending less on graphics card as this really is just a bit of a play around system and i dont want to spend too much on it.

Thanks in advace

Cheers

If it is overclocked, for sure not. It's a beast overclocker, it can easily catch up to Haswell.

Thanks very much to all you guys who responded so quick.

I will now keep an eye out for a bargain on a 980Ti and a more "home theatre" looking case.

Cheers, much appreciated!

Not easily. In frequency, yes. Factoring in IPC, Sandy should be a little bit below Haswell. And if you happen to run a lot of CPU intensive applications, Haswell is definitely better on average. Then we look at Haswell Refresh and the needle goes further in that direction.

Haswell Refresh doesn't improve IPC afaik

That's correct, but on average it overclocks more than Haswell, so the result is faster performance.
