Activating AHCI Before OS Installation

Hey, I wanted to ask a quick question or 2 before I turn on the new build. I bought a 850 evo SSD, and wanted to set the mode to ahci before installation; My questions are: a. is this necessary to maximize speed. and b. If it is, what's the way to set it to AHCI in the bios. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H

It's not necessary, but is a good idea. In the BIOS, there will be something called "SATA Configuration" or similar. In there, you should be able to change the SATA mode (AHCI/IDE/RAID I think).
