Well, after getting along with my wifes mac I have decided to build my first pc to be able to run games higher than the lowest settings.

My budget is somewhere between $1000 to $1200 (not including mouse, monitor, keyboard, etc.)

I'd like to be able to play most 2014 games and earlier at 1080p @ 60fps on high or ultra settings

I put together some parts and was going to see what you guys suggest.

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

Motherboard: ASRock Z97 EXTREME4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (I have no idea what I'm looking for in a motherboard)

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory

Storage: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Case: NZXT Phantom 530 (Red) ATX Full Tower Case

Power Supply: Corsair RM 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM (64-bit)

So with all of that I'm a couple hundred dollars over budget. If I could get suggestions on what to substitute and if I should try to buy some of these items used that would be great!

ps Case is not TOO big of an issue but I do like the one I listed.

No need for the core i7 and that expensive cooler for gaming, get a hyper 212 cooler and a good core i5. And get a better SSD like the bx100, the V300 is awful.

The I5 4690k is directed more towards just gaming- stick with the I7 if you are going to use it for more heavy CPU work otherwise I would drop down.

I think you might be able to get away with less memory as well 8GB is pretty good if you need to cut costs

No need for i7 just an i5 will do fine

Only need 8GB for gaming

Don't need that much HDD storage and that SSD is awful get a better one like the Samsung evo series or BX100

Don't need that big of case you can get something like the H440 or R5 for cheaper

And with that money saved up you could get a better GPU like the 390/390X, More SSD and better ASUS mobo

For gaming, an i5-4690k will be excellent for you. i7's are made more for recording, streaming, etc. But the 4690k is still exceptionally good at recording and streaming.

GPU wise, take some of the money saved by the i5 and get the MSI r9 390. It preforms better than the GTX 970, but does tend to consume a bit more power. Make sure your PSU can handle it. (750w gold should do it no trouble)
