I currently have a SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE500BW 2.5" 500GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) and I am looking to buy another SSD so I can put them in RAID 0. My question is do they have to be the same model or can I use this SAMSUNG 850 EVO MZ-75E500B/AM 2.5" 500GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) along with the 840?

You can use two different drives, just make sure they are the same capacity.

RAID 0 is very risky though, do it at your own risk :)

You can, but it's better to RAID the same SSD.

Hey sgthotrod,

You can practically put any two or more drives in a RAID array. The controller will limit the size of all drives to the one with the smallest and the speed of all drives to the one with the slowest. It is advisable to have drives with the same firmware and to be the same models as well as to be NAS/RAID class in order to minimize the risk of drive dropouts and data corruption. Other than that you shouldn't have problems.

Since RAID0 does not offer any redundancy whatsoever I would strongly suggest to have a backup on an external drive of all your important data. :)
