Currently looking at this build http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZkX6bv

But I'm more than open to moving somethings but I'm looking for a 1080p monster that plays games at ultra presets for the next couple of years and with settings turned down for another three at least. Budget is 1500 not with monitor. Thanks guys!

Were you planning on CF?

Why Win7 instead of 8.1?

Get a different RAM you don't need 8GB and the RAM exceeds 1.5V which isn't recommended

Also with a lower PSU and 8GB RAM you can get a 390X which is better than a 290X and should last a long time for 1080p gaming

Also it's best to get Windows 8.1 for latest optimization, drivers, etc and free upgrade to Windows 10

1.65v ram is fine--confirmed by Intel employees. The 1.5v spec is just for Intel to stay on the safe side.

this is a good build. i went with the 1050w psu because the gigabyte 980 pulls a lot of power at maximum load. approx. 342w according to:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Gigabyte/GeForce_GTX_980_G1_Gaming/25.html

used the following formula: [(cpuTdp + gpuTdp) * 2 ] + [(numberOfGpus -1) * gpuTdp]

seasonic makes great psu's. don't go for that corsair shit. you could probably get away with a smaller psu, but that's up to you.

you're planning on overclocking the cpu right? get the h60. that's all you need for the i5. you don't need 500gb of ssd space. 120gb is enough for the os and some programs. don't use a gigabyte board for overclocking the cpu. included a good 1080p, 1ms, 144 hertz, gsync monitor

Not at the moment (maybe later)and i thought Windows 7 got the upgrade as well so figured i go with the cheaper version

I though the 290x looked better with the build and the performance is around the same. Higher psu was becuase i might add another at some point but thats again just a maybe

snip

reason for the 500gb ssd, yeah it's overkill but every build that i've used a 120gb in it gets filled up in about a month. Also I didn't know that about gigabyte boards. I knew corsair had cheaper components in them but overall the reviews on them havent been bad. Also i like the monitor choice only thing thats kind of bad about it is the 24 inches

You mentioned the build was without a monitor. Did you already have one or do you still plan to buy one?

I like the monitor for the price a lot only thing is that the cpu (I'd switch it out for a hyper 212 evo) also I cant tell if that memory and match. Now what I should do is just get a closed case without a window that way I won't be a snob about it all "matching"

The Pure Rock is better than the 212 Evo.

If you mean the motherboard, I've used both and the memory should be pretty close in matching.
