I have a 2TB Seagate drive that came out of an external solution. It's been running for at least a year, just for storage.

For around a week now, it makes a noise like a vibrating phone (It makes me check my phone all the time) every 30 minutes or so.

Never noticed this sound before. What do you guys think it could be?

Have you made sure that none of the screws that hold it in place have gotten loose?

Put something soft under it and you will not hear that noise.

It sounds bad, maybe you can compare the sound with one of these: http://www.datacent.com/hard_drive_sounds.php

Generally speaking when a drive starts making sounds it didn't make before I would no longer trust it.

I'll check out those sounds.

Looks like I'll have to get a new hard drive

Yes, that is the safest option, I just don't trust drives when they start making sounds they never made before.
