That's good then, it's probably just a bit of grit either on the shaft of the fan hub or on the stator colliding with the magnet. That's all it takes with these things to cause a racket unfortunately.

If PSU fan were to stop, how long would it be before the over temp protection kicks in? 15 mins of stress test enough?

If the PSU fan on that Seasonic unit stops it means it isn't under load. 

If you are going to stress test it it should just power on again.

Only the X series and above have that feature. This one only goes down in RPM to say 500-600

Really depends on the conditions... How much load is being pulled, ambient temperature, if the PSU is still enclosed in a case and the case has positive pressure airflow that can force air though the PSU too.

Really depends on the conditions... How much load is being pulled, ambient temperature, if the PSU is still enclosed in a case and the case has positive pressure airflow that can force air though the PSU too.

Asking since for the past 2 weeks it's been making a ticking noise (not hitting anything, I'm sure) and today I tried pressing the center of the fan several times.  Booted up and it's gone. Usually when I went into shutdown/sleep it would spin down along with the fan and spin up when I rebooted. Some days it was more apparent, other days it was quieter. Now it's silent but I also don't really feel any air coming out the back.

Can never be too sure with a PSU, try looking underneath to see if the fan is spinning at all, if not get on to Seasonic support and tell them what's happening. They should sort you out with an RMA.

 

That Seasonic unit should have a 5 year warranty on it.

The desk kind of doesn't allow for that :/

I think I could feel air getting sucked in through the bottom.

The PSU itself is working perfectly fine, hell, from what I'm seeing it's better than the one it replaced. The only thing I'm worried about is that noise. Considering the behavious it was the fan and I guess pressing on the middle either made lubricant flow through or somehow broke it completely.

On a more positive note, I tried with a wet hand seeing as that makes skin more sensitive to air movement, I can at least feel air passing now. That's a start I guess.

Well, If it works it works I guess.

If it's barely 3 weeks old and it's failing why not get it replaced under warranty so that it doesn't get worse later on...
