Water cooling tips
Hello Linus tech tips community! How are you guys doing?
So, you can probably tell by the title what it is. But I am here to ask if you guys have any tips to water cooling? I am really new to it, and have never done it before. I have only bought the pre-done ones. LIke the corsair h100i gtx. Which I currently have. But I have watched a LOT of YouTube videos on how to do it. I am thinking about going with this kit from xs-pc then buying two water blocks for an evga superclocked 980.Link to kit: http://www.xs-pc.com/watercooling-kits-750-pump/raystorm-750-ex360-watercooling-kit . But I have a few concerns about it. They are
- Will It have enough power(Pump) to water cool 2 GPU's and a CPU?
- Will one triple fan radiator be enough mounted at the top? I have a 760t case. And don't think a quad fan radiator will fit. But not sure if I should mount a three fan radiator at the top and a two fan radiator at the front. What do you guys think?
- Is the reservoir big enough? I only have one drive bay available. I would be fine with going with a reservoir internally but don't know how
. I could not seem to find any YouTube videos that show that. Do you guys maybe know of one and is it not to hard to mount it internally?
So that is my concerns. I don't really need to buy a kit, but would like to go with one since it does come with instructions. Again, if you guys have any tips for me. That would be great!
Thanks, and have a great day!

Hi and welcome to the wonderful rabbit hole that is the LTT forums.
To answer you questions.....
- The pump is really for a CPU block only now you could use it for the GPU block too but it will be under strain and will increase the time for pump failure. I have the exact same one and will be changing it soon for a D5 pump. If you want a kit for the GPU as well get any of the kits with a D5 pump and then you will be set
- One triple radiator is enough for a CPU and GPU even with a OC on both components. You can also add say another radiator in the front or bottom if you want to expand your cooling ability
- The reservoir is enough and XSPC also has kits that come with the same reservoir but it has a D5 pump
Some other concerns that you will have but don't know yet....
- All the fans supplied with the XSPC kits work fine but are noisy and vibrate, so that is one component you will want to upgrade either at once or in the future. If you like a particular fan cool but if you need some suggestions let me know. PWM fans are better to control than 3pin fans.
- You will want to research PWM fan splitters for better/easier installation of your fans
- When choosing fans you want high static pressure and CFM and not just CFM. Anything above 2.0 static pressure will be good enough for radiators with 45mm thickness or less regardless if it is high or low fin density
- Make sure to invest in silver bullets or kill coils to help combat growth in your loop.
- Make sure you use the same ID and OD tubing as the compression fittings you choose to prevent leaking but if you choose barbs then you can get away with different size ID and OD of tubing as you will be using clamps to secure the tubing and they can be tighten as need be.
- Test you loop outside you build to ensure no damage is caused if you should get a leak because some thing was not tightened enough
- When buying tubing, buy an extra foot to accommodate for mis-calculations of your runs----> is not a medical term here
- Make sure you have a tube cutter and not some pair of scissors or a hatchet or something to make your cuts, this way you will get a cleaner cut.
Enjoy your adventure and the pride you will have after you have done a good job.
