turbo boost...hello?

Go to solution Solved by JerkyMcDilerino,

I would just leave it by default if your system performance is okay, but you can refer that feature to your motherboard manual book.

I got little curious on my 4790K started little research about overclocking and auto tuners played around with little settings then decided you know what since this stuff is far out of my knowledge and comfort zone I should leave it alone.. I'd feel much better if someone in irl would show how overclocking is done and explain stuff.

but far as I know turbo-boost should make the CPU go faster so 4.0 to 4.4 right? so I wonder is this suppose to happen or not? or when I reset the bios settings to default optimazed did it change something I didn't want to be changed? I checked that the turbo boost is enabled. So what gives? I use Noctua NH-D15 as cooler..but 3.9 only? shouldn't it go up to 4.4?

Turbo is what a single core can get when in a single core task.

It increases the clock speed of a single core, not all the cores.

(Thats my best explanation)

When a core is under strain it can borrow out performance from another cpu core.

(I think that is better)

It will only happen if the increased frequency is needed.

EDIT: 4.0GHz base frequency. 4.1GHz on 4 cores, 4.2GHz on 3 cores, 4.3GHz on 2 cores and 4.4GHz on a single core.

Run a CPU stress test like AIDA64 or Intel XTU and while usage is 100%, use CPU-Z to check the core speed and multiplier. It should boost to ~4400 MHZ (Multiplier at x44)

Intel SpeedStep will scale the CPU frequency and voltage based on load, therefore it will only turbo boost under higher loads.

+1 Mine does boost to 4.4GHz on games as well.

All my core boost to 4.4GHz while i'm playing games such as World of Tank, Battlefield 4(Duh, this game is using CPU + GPU raw power), or Counter Strike Global Offended.

You're right I just tested BF4 and it does the same..still slightly confused by does the bus clock show 99.9 even tho at bios it should be 100? well at least 4.1 it does get boosted..
