Web Design Questions

jam1234

Hey Guys,

I  am wondering how you guys design your websites because I am never happy with what I make.

Do you go through some kind of process?

Any other advice/tutorials demonstrating these techniques would also be nice.

Thanks!

Wish I could afford to do giveaways for you guys, Sorry school doesn't pay me! <3

I'm horrible at coming up with designs so I mostly use bootstrap for the front end. Recently I used it as a base to create a Material Design inspired site though that's still a WIP that I think is pretty nice looking.

I usually draw out a basic version of the website on my Surface 3, then sometimes I will use bootstrap and sometimes I will do it from scratch. It really depends on what the project is.

I have an i5 and many other things

I made a website for a local business through a course at school this year.

Just wing it. Ask for help when you are stuck and remember have a sight map diagram and work off that.

One of the challenges I face in design would be that most of the designs I come up with look waaayy too similar.

It's completely blown out of proportion. Also if you're the least bit worried about data gathering then you should go live in a cave a 1000Km from the nearest establishment simply because every device and every entity gathers information these days. In the current era privacy is just fallacy and nothing more.

I usually google for some nice css themes you can dowbload for free, that correspond to the website I am going to make.

You can use them and their code to come up with a good design.

However if you copy paste code be careful about licensing.

I sketch out a design on graph paper, move to photoshop mockup, then implement in real HTML and CSS. Finally, I realize it looks like balls and end up shitfaced the rest of the evening.

  • 2 months later...

Hello everyone,

So I have a co-worker that is trying to start up his own podcast. He has a wesbite made currently but is not happy with it. He wants to be able to post his podcasts on his website available to either stream or download. He also wants to be able to make tweaks/updates to his site easily and regularly. He's not totally lost on a computer but he isn't PC Master Race either lol. I told him about Square Space but thats the only one I really know of because of LinusTechTips. He doesn't want to use Google and isn't very sure about using YouTube either. He needs to get his site set up and running so he can put his podcast on iTunes. Anything I do for him will be free so paid services are pretty much out. Though if they are cheap I could probably talk him into it. So do any of you know of a good way I can accomplish all of this for him at little or no cost?

Might be a stupid question but I work mainly with hardware and some software with computers but I haven't really gotten into web design...lol

-snip-

You should really have made a new topic instead of necroing this old post.

You could check out wordpress, but if your friend wants a domain name, that's not going to come free. Squarespace is pretty good though (Not free though)
