Mic picking up output sound

i have recently purchased an adapter like this one: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0058DOWH6/metafilter-20/ref=nosim/         to connect my headset to my pc but the mic is picking up the output sound even though it is recognized as a mic

 

any ideas how to fix?
