Hey,

I'm considering upgrading GPU real soon. I game at 4K with no AA and mid/high settings. I currently have a watercooling loop (see signature) without GPU integrated and wanted to insert my new upgrade in the loop. I want to aim for 60 fps still without AA but with increased settings (high/ultra). The most demanding game I currently play is GTAV.

I will try and sell My current R9 290 to pay in part for what I'll upgrade to. I don't have a fixed budget and will consider the options that make the most sense. Just to set this aside right now, no I don't want to add another R9 290 to my config. I've had it in the past and the overclocking potential was quite limited along with the downside of (what was) sometimes flimsy crossfire performance in some games.

I'm currently considering the options listed in the poll.

So far, I've read a ton of reviews about all these options and here is what I summarize from all of it.

2x R9 390

Pros : cheap upgrade, good performance, seems like good overclockers

Cons : not much of an upgrade considering a single card swap (R9 290 to 390), relying on better drivers for future crossfire use, 2 waterblocks to buy

2x R9 390X

Pros : Good performance jump, seems like good overclockers

Cons : Pricier than 2x R9 390, overkill (?), relying on better drivers for future crossfire use, 2 waterblocks to buy

2x GTX 980

Pros : Good performance jump, great overclockers

Cons : Pricier than 2x R9 390X, overkill (?),  2 waterblocks to buy

Fury

Pros : Cheap, approaches GTX 980ti performance

Cons : Poor overclock potential making me wonder why integrate it to the loop at all

Fury X

Pros : Cheaper than GTX 980ti, Quasi similar performance than GTX 980ti

Cons : Poor overclock potential making me wonder why integrate it to the loop at all

GTX 980ti

Pros : Nice performance, great overclock potential

Cons : A bit pricier than Fury options for a few FPS more

What do you guys think ?

I would go with dual fury if you already have a custom loop

I fear that this might be overkill for what I want to achieve and considering that the memory isn't overclockable and that the core isn't overclockable very far, this makes me rethink adding a Fury (X) to my loop, let alone 2 of them.

I would get the 980ti and put it in the water loop and OC it. Better OC and more Vram.

The memory will be overclockable if i remember....

You just have to wait for some software updates!
