windows transfer to different pc

i have my pc with windows 7 hp sp1 on it and im getting another pc for the fam with 8.1 pro on it. am i able to get 8.1 pro and put windows 7 on the other pc?

Ya, I recently upgraded and the only way to put a copy of windows onto a new PC is to grab the key and do a fresh install

With win 7 I got away with a hdd transfere to a new pc by using win repair after installing it to the new case.

Depends on what type of key you have. But you will need to reinstall anyway because of mobo change (trust me, even having same manufacturer and chipset but different model isn't compatible by drivers).
