I had the WN2000RPT and it just never worked well with any of the four routers I've ran it with -- Netgear WNR2000, WNDR4500, D-Link 868L, or Asus AC66u/AC68u. So I'd try for another solution -- either an access point or a power line adapter (although I've heard power line adapters are also usually a mess).

I have a three level house and the main router is on the second floor but is still seem to be getting bad connection in the basement. I was looking at some range extenders and found the WN3000RP. I see that it has mixed reviews on newegg so i was wondering if anyone has this item or something similar and if it works.

I have one of these. I can walk to the bus stop and still get at least 2 bars of WiFi. Pretty good range too, and the ethernet socket is a really good addition. Here's the firmware homepage once you update it:

You can't change things like the transmit power etc. but according to Acryllic Wi-Fi the extender's antennas output around -19. In other countries that don't have a law regarding 2.4GHz radio it should be much more powerful.

The extender will set its own IP depending on your subnet range, and it will set it's channel to the same one your router is on. Both external antennas are transmitters.

Edit: Acrylic Wifi software. Extender is highlighted in pink

It's completely blown out of proportion. Also if you're the least bit worried about data gathering then you should go live in a cave a 1000Km from the nearest establishment simply because every device and every entity gathers information these days. In the current era privacy is just fallacy and nothing more.
