This is going to sound ridiculous but I just got a new backplate for my GPU and realized that because my asus gryphon z87 has the armor on, the backplate can't snap into place because of the casing around the IO shield. How much of a difference would I feel if I plugged it into another PCIE slot?

I don't think you'll see any real performance hit as long as the next slot is still x16, however looks wise it'd make me throw up. No way to mod the armor a bit like taking a dremel to the top shroud right above the PCI lane?

Not much difference at all. The difference between an x16 and x8 slot is nearly margin of error. You may lose 1-2fps, but not something noticeable.

You know what's easier than buying and building a brand new PC? Petty larceny!
If you're worried about getting caught, here's a trick: Only steal one part at a time. Plenty of people will call the cops because somebody stole their computer -- nobody calls the cops because they're "pretty sure the dirty-bathrobe guy from next door jacked my heat sink."
