Which fan controller?

Go to solution Solved by TheCaptain53,

The NZXT Grid+ sounds interesting. Will I be able to set the fans very low(10%-20%) with this?

I use a Grid+ and really like it.

Lowest you can set the fans is 40%

I use Corsair air flow fans (which are 3-pin) and I can set my fan speed to 20%. I also have my CPU fan connected to the Grid+ via 4-pin to 3-pin that came with the Grid+. I've set a fan curve based on my CPU temps. The lowest I'm able to set my fan speed is 20%, any lower and the fans just cut off. For that kind of precise control, a Corsair Link might be a better option.

However, I love my Grid+. The only reason I never got the Corsair Link is because I had never heard of it before I bought my Grid+.

Either way, you shouldn't be disappointed with an NZXT Grid+. 20% fan speed is pretty low, my two intake AF-140s spin at less than 500 rpm, so they're not very audible.

Hello,

I am looking for a fan controller, because with my mainboard (MSI Z97 Gaming 5) I only can set my fans from 50%-100%. Mine are set to 50% and are very loud.

So I am looking for a fan controller, where I have a big range, to set my fan speed very low.

If you know a good fan controller or have a better idea for a quieter PC, pls tell me.

Thanks :)

I have the same mother board.

I have a pwm fan splitter and run my louder fans off that and have it attached to the cpu 1 header. The other headers (system ones) i have the larger, quieter fans attached so it makes even less of a difference.

A lot of Z97 boards tend to use PWM headers so you could download something like SpeedFan to control your fans. I personally hate SpeedFan, but that's my my opinion and experiences.

You could go the route of external fan controller, I personally think they look ugly, so I went with an internal fan controller.

For an internal fan controller, I use the NZXT Grid+. It's relatively cheap, easy to use and is pretty discrete. It does use 3-pin headers, which is a downside, and it also doesn't have individual fan control. All the connected fans use the same fan profile.

The other option is a Corsair Link. It has 4-pin headers, has individual fan control, and looks pretty cool. It's also more expensive than the Grid+, so you have to consider that.

How are you getting the fan speeds to 20%.  It won't let me go lower than 40.

Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly; the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly.

I honestly have no idea. It could be a difference in the fans we use, but I'm not entirely sure. I know I spent possibly more than needed on my overkill fans, but I quite like them.

I guess make sure that you have the latest CAM software. Other than that, I really don't know. If this doesn't help you, try getting into contact with NZXT. I can send you a screenshot of my fans running at 20% should it be necessary.

I am using a Mix of SP120s and AF140s...   I may just call them.

Probably a good idea. Make sure you've got the latest software update. Also, try turning your PC completely off and turn the switch to off on the PSU. I ran into a few problems a little while ago where my fan control would go a bit haywire and not sit at the specified speed. This was fixed with turning the PC completely off. Has happened only a few times since, not a problem in the last few months.
