Why does it take >600ms to mount a mechanical harddrive? Is it due to spinning up?

see here

Is there any other way I could possibly improve my boot time, apart from fiddeling around in mkinitcpio, or recompiling the kernel?

get an SSD :D

a 4 second boot time is very fast, whats the issue?

Yeah, the system already is on an SSD.

I also just measured the time it takes from hitting the power button to slim (the display manager, the thing that asks you for user and password) appearing, and that is 24s.

The UEFI takes about 20s to do it's thing, so whatever changes I make in systemd or at the kernel image will be miniscule.

On a related note, How do I convince my UEFI to get things done faster?

EDIT: clarity.

Oh right I see

I have no idea, not something I would ever personally mess with
