I want to build an HTPC for my living room.

I am looking for some tips to help me get started.

What sound card makes sense for the speaker set up?

What are some good HTPC cases?

Do I need a cheap graphics card initially if I plan on saving up and buying a better one later?

Does anyone suggest a TV tuner for an HTPC?

Is there a good place to look for tips on LTT or any other site?

Any suggestions or tips are appreciated!

Most modern motherboards have decent sound. As a general rule, the better the motherboard chipset, the better the sound.

A current model i3 can easily handle the graphics requirements of an htpc.

Silverstone makes a number of good looking htpc cases. Most notable is the Raven RVZ01. Fractal Design has just introduced the Node 202 which is also a decent case.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Is there any benefit to having a sound card with my set up?

Thanks for the reply!

Short answer, depends on the motherboard and speakers. I would suggest asking the question in http://linustechtips.com/main/forum/40-audio/. You will get a much more informed answer there.
