Today when i tried to download a new game on steam my Download speed was only about 1.4mb/s peak. I usually have about 10mb/s so this is pretty weird. What could cause the download speed to go down this much, i closed all other programs on my pc.

That speed seems fine to me, nothing wrong with 1.4 Mb/s.

Sure, but it's lower than his regular download speed.  Just because it's a good speed doesn't mean problem solved.

There seems to be a bit of confusion.

When you performed the speed test, can you verify whether any other user in your house was using the Internet? Can you verify if you were downloading or streaming anything from the Internet at the same time?

Basically, speedtest should be run by itself, with no other internet activity, to give you an accurate result.

If you've verified that Speedtest was run by itself, and you're still getting the results of 2.69 Mbps, then you should call your Internet Service Provider, and get them to test your line.

Also, Steam reports download speeds in MB/s, (Megabytes per second). Your ISP, and speedtest, report speeds in Mbps or Mb/s (Megabits per second). Big difference.

10 Mbps = 1.25 MB/s. So if you pay for 10 Mbps internet, you can expect download speeds of ~1.25 MB/s.

If a single website is giving you slow speeds, but all others are fine, then the fault is on their end, not yours. Likely, the Rockstar website is just experiencing some higher than usual volume of users.

Also, in the future please make a new thread for stuff like this, as it's a different situation :) We don't want the OP's issue to get lost in the mix, and you will receive better attention to your problem.

Just asked dad, he said we have a 100 Mbps internet connection. So that should belike 12,5 MB/s when downloading something, right?

Yes that's correct, a 100 Mbps connection equals ~12.5 MB/s download speeds.

However, if that is indeed the connection you're paying for, then something is seriously wrong with your speed test. Your speed test results literally show your speed at 2.69% of your connection. I don't think I have to tell you how bad that is.

Can you reply to the rest of my post? Did you run the speed test by itself with no other users using the internet? We need more clarification.
