Noob question about turntables

I currently have a pair of hd600s and a schiit asgard 2 headphone amplifier for listening to ripped cos. I am looking into upgrading my source to vinyl and was looking specifically at the audio technica lp120 turntable. My question is, since I don't know much about vinyl, would I need anything in between the turntable and the amplifier? This turntable has a USB output but the internal phono preamp can be disabled to use the phone output instead. Which output would sound better and would I need any intermediary components?

Simply keep the preamp inside the unit turned on - there should be three modes (USB, preamp, phono). With the phono mode, you would need a preamp to get the signal up to line level before plugging it into your headphone amp.
