[SOLVED] Black Screen Issues

Go to solution Solved by samcool55,

Ah, I'll look into getting an RMA then. Your 100% sure it could be this though?

not 100%, but i'm quite sure it's the graphics card.

I mean it's not a driver issue and it happens when the gpu stops getting a load.

And you sort of tested it in 2 systems and the problem is still not away.

The only other thing that could cause it is the PSU, because that's the only thing that's also from the previous build unless you replaced that as well.

If you did replace it, well the gpu is the only thing that could cause it because everything else is different, and the problem is still here.

Hello,

I've been having issues with Black Screens on my computer for a while now, but sadly as I've had exams I haven't really been able to get time to fix this issue.

So this problem first happened when I upgraded from Windows 7 to 8 this was back when I had my AMD build, at first I thought nothing of it as It mostly happened when I Alt-Tabbed from a game or just quit out of a game, I looked around for issues and thought maybe it could be the Motherboard doesn't support Windows 8 so I downgraded back to 7. Sadly this problem still happened and so I thought maybe it's time for some parts to be upgraded, so I went out and brought Intels X99 components and fitted them all in then I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 and happy days! The issue wasn't there anymore. Then a month or so down the line the problem came around again, since I has exams around this time I had no time to fix it and just left the problem as it mostly happened in games. When my exams finished I gave my computer a nice clean out with a fresh new SSD and Windows install, but at the time of cleaning this out I had a problem where my board wouldn't power on at all. I came to the Forum and managed to find a guy who gave me the right advice and it was fixed (Had to reset the CMOS) Since installing all of my Windows stuff and everything it didn't happen much. Then when I updated my Drivers for my graphics card the problem came back as soon as this started happening I reverted my driver back, sadly it carried on so I fresh installed again and still the issue happenes...

So the main problem is when I'm playing a game and Alt-tab too many times it will Black Screen my computer. The black screens also happen when I go through menu's fast in games or when I just quit out of a game and go to open a program.

My thoughts so far for the problem is, a Program on my PC, My graphics card (GPU is still from my old AMD build) or when I had the problem with the motherboard it messed something up.

Thanks to anyone who may have a Solution for me! I'd really love to fix this if I can't I might have to sell the parts off and get a new PC (Don't really want to do that)

When you say GPU dying, do you when possibly a fault with it? If so would I be able to get an RMA as it's still under Warrenty or would I have to buy a new card?

Yes it's faulty, RMA it if you can, hopefully they will fix it. That's all i can say.

There is one think I'd like to ask though. Could it be something else, as this problem only happens Sometimes?

Well i've been thinking about that and i can't think of anything else that could cause the issue.

The only thing i can think if that could cause the problem is if the psu isn't grounded. But really i can't think of anything else possibly causing it.

UPDATE:

I emailed Asus and they said to call the company I brought it from and get a replacement, sadly they dont stock them anymore so I'm getting a refund and will have to buy a new one.

Thanks for the help!
