My setup:

Internet -> Crap router provided by ISP -> good router -> PC

The problem:

I am hosting a server on which to play Terraria with a  group of friends.  It is fully functional and working well but the problem is that the access point that my PC has to be connected to is not only slow but also unreliable, dropping the connection very often. Ethernet is not an option where I live as the ISP provided router is connected to a coaxial port situated in the living room, located far away from where I keep my PC.  The reason I cannot port forward from the good router directly is that instead of porting to the entire internet, it is porting to the other router. I looked up fixes online, but most require shady looking programs to work.

Is what happens when I use the crap router's network, the connection is limited meaning there is no internet.

Can you try and get just a modem from your ISP? (instead of a modem+router combo) -- alternatively you can probably find a cheap independent router online.

As for solving your problem through port-port forwarding, I'm not exactly sure what the best solution is.

I would much rather solve this through port-forwarding. Regardless, thank you for your suggestion.

bridge the isp modem to the router

other option is to turn on the DMZ in the modem...to the router

and that will basiclly turn off the firewall in the modem to the router

If you need remote help fixing something on your computer

I can help over Teamviewer if you wish

just msg me on my profile

I will try to do the former.
