Planning To Upgrade Current PC

Hello everyone, so my current PC is :
CPU : Intel Core I7 870
GPU : GTS 450
Mortherboard : Asus P7H55-M LX
Ram : 8GB DDR3

I've had this PC for around 4 years already , I know my GPU is very weak and I plan to upgrade graphics card first, probably going for GTX 970 or GTX 960, haven't decided yet.
I dont know if I should upgrade my cpu too or maybe I should just make completely new computer since parts are old? I dont know give some advice please.
I am obviosly going for gaming PC

Go for a 970 if price isn't a problem and then go for an i5 when skylake releases also note a new mobo will be needed.

The GPU obviously needs and upgrade.

The CPU can still hang on with a 970 most of the times. Think about upgrading that towards Intel's Skylake launch

Go for a 970 if price isn't a problem and then go for an i5 when skylake releases also note a new mobo will be needed and you do at least have ddr3 right?

Your welcome and yes mobo= motherboard also no you dont need one for 960 or 970

However if you got a new one make sure it is PCI 16 3.0 as your current is a 2.0 which is still compatible but 3.0 will give a little boost in speed

ok and is it possible to overlock my CPU? I7 870? if it is should I overlock it maybe? or is it not worth it?

Your cpu probably runs hot and I would suggest buying a newer I 7 to overclock but it is possible

That CPU is kinda weak but it should handle a 380 4GB, 970 or a 390 fine. (or you can buy a used 290X but they use alot of power and is hot!)

 

In my eyes the biggest problem in your build is the GPU but the CPU is second problem so its next to upgrade! ;)
