I use Microsoft TMG for my enterprise stuff, but i wouldn't recommend that if it's for a home environment, I run PFSense on my home network and i would highly recommend it.

if its low clocked dual core (list the specs) stick with linux (like cent OS)

 

if its a high clocked(new) cpu stick with pfsesne since it cant work with multicore cpus

 

it depends on what u need it for

You're wrong. pfSense supports SMP CPUs.
