Hey guys so I have a 1TB WD Caviar Black and I decided to get a Samsung SSD the 250gb one and how would I be able to move my windows there and use that as the boot drive and keep all my files from the 1tb of storage because all my games are there and I would want to reinstall all my programs :P

I have a lot of programs so cloning my HDD isnt a good idea i guess cuz It wont fit the 500gb's to the SSD.

How do you think I should do it?

Well at this point you'll just have to prioritize what programs you really want to be speedy at put them on an SSD. Seriously though? I have to assume that 500GB has games and things in it too.

CPU: i5 4670k • Cooler: Corsair H100i • Motherboard: MSI Z87 MPOWER • RAM: Crucial Ballistix Elite 2x 8GB • Storage: Samsung 840 250GB SSD, 2x WD Red 3TB • GPU: EVGA GTX 780 3GB • PSU: Corsair RM750W • Case: Corsair 750D • Mouse: Razer Naga 2012 (I actually use the thing for productivity/media buttons) • Keyboard: Ducky Shine 3 w/ Browns - Green LED • Monitor: Asus PB278Q 27" 2560 x 1440, ASUS PB238Q 23" 1920x1080 • Lighting: 2m NZXT Sleeved Blue LED Strip • pcpartpicker.com/p/3cHfZ

I would just put the OS in the SSD and have everything else on a separate drive.

He knows what both of you would do and what he has to do but doesn't know how to.

I don't know of any cloning program that will allow you to clone only Windows and Programs and things but not games for example. And if there is a program for that, many games won't launch if you move them anywhere unless you are using Steam in which case you would be able to change the directory.

If you are using Steam you can use Windows Disk Manager tool to create another partition on your 1TB hard drive, then move your Steam Library and any other other large files you have to that other partition on the hard drive so that you are only left with less than 250GB worth of that on your C: partition. Then you can use Samsungs cloning utility to clone only the C: partition to the SSD

you could just re-install windows on the SSD exclusively, then change the program files directory to the HDD using the above registry tweak.

Yeah I am using steam and origin but the rest of my games are not through them. Is there a way just to move windows 7 to the ssd? and some of the programs. But retain the path of my games and use the 1tb left as the storage

As far as I know you can't only chose to copy only certain installed applications. Your best bet would be to again, make a secondary partition on your Hard Drive, and maybe move your Steam and Origin Libraries there? Steam and Origin games won't be affected, moving other games will probably cause problems so... move what you can do the secondary partition, you might need to reinstall some games. Your C: disk space usage has to be below 250GB before you can clone...

Well I went to microsoft answer tech you cant believe what they told me. "You cant install windows on a SSD" I never facepalmed so hard in my life.

Wow... please tell me this wasn't an official Microsoft guy...
