Try CloneZilla.

 

1. Boot on the cd.

2. Make an image of your C: to a external HDD.

3. Switch your HDD to the SSD

4. Boot on the cd again

5. Restore the image to the new SSD

 

It is almost that simple, just remember that your current c: cant be bigger then the new SSD.

I usually just reinstall everything.

I've also used Clonezilla, but going from a HDD to an SSD a clean install would probably be better.

Yes, do a clean install. Not sure how Windows will handle all the SSD optimization when cloning from HDD. 

Besides that, getting a fresh install with the latest drivers and programs are always a good ide.
