Has anybody tried the open-source (MIT Licensed) Haiku OS before?

If so, what were your thoughts?

It boots in mere seconds.

Ugh, it looks like windows 95, no wonder it boots in seconds... :P

I don't care about looks.

I care mainly about Freedom (which this is not, I hate the MIT License, the GNU Licenses are THE BEST!)

SCREW PROPREITARY SOFTWARE!

And the MIT License.

I'm a Linux user, but college and my gaming needs keep Windows as my primary OS. Dual boot :P
Also, I love Linux, but sometimes there is too much hassle with something simple. I remember spending 30 minutes just forcing the driver to recognize the screen resolution and refresh rate and in the end I had to manually add it and make a script that switches to native res on startup. Now that's just a pain in the ass. But on the server side I just love Debian. :D

If I ever feel like a hipster or like using something retro I'll give Haiku a shot :P

Why use software with limited practicality simply because of the license? That's a bit like the whole "I only eat organic, free range, fresh vegetable fed chicken" nonsense... It's overly idealistic and unrealistic. We all know those "it must be 100% open source, written in a 100% open source IDE, and committed to a 100% open source repository" people and they're eventually beaten into submission by the real world. If you were to walk into an enterprise environment that runs Linux touting Linux-libre or whatever other super open software they'd probably be like "That's cool; We use CentOS... Now you use CentOS too."

Most of us who use Linux daily do so for practical and pragmatic reasons not some hipster "look how retro and open source my software is."

Don't get me wrong... I love Open Source when and where it's appropriate but getting excited over licenses is a waste of energy... Sometimes proprietary software is just better, sometimes Open Source software with a license you don't particularly like is better, and forcing yourself to put up with idiosyncrasies in a piece of software just because you like the license strikes me as insane.

That's like saying GNU/Linux-libre has limited functionality.

I do go by the license. That's me. And I'm not a lone. gnu.org
