I am going to post this here in Graphics Cards though it could also likely be a problem with my TV, monitor, or connecting cables.

I am currently using a Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 7870  which has an HDMI output, a DVI output and a full sized DisplayPosrt output.
I have an LG 21:9 monitor (the cheap one from best buy) Model #
29UM55-P which accepts HDMI input.

I also have a 55" LG TV hooked up via and HDMI - DisplayPort adapter this one to be exact. --> http://amzn.to/1eVPN3L

If I hook only my TV up  to my PC via HDMI, I get audio and video. If I hook it up via the DisplayPort adapted (again only the TV) I get audio and video. However if I then hook up my LG monitor up after the fact with either the HDMI or the DisplayPort with the adapter the LG monitor only outputs at 1920x1080 and stretches the image to fill the area instead of outputting in 2560x1080 as it should.

If I hook up my LG monitor first and then hook up the TV after the fact either via the HDMI or the DisplayPort adapter I get proper resolutions from both the monitor(2560x1080) and the TV (1920x1080) but I get a prompt saying that my system has detected a DVI - HDMI adapter and no sound will be carried.

The goal here is to have both the TV and monitor output their proper resolutions and both be able to carry sound and when I want to put a game or a movie on the TV I can select that as the audio output.

In the first part where you hook the tv up first, then the LG 21:9, is it set to duplicate displays or extend displays? if its set to duplicate displays, press windows key+P until you get extend.

I'll have to check that when I get home.

EDIT :

Actually no. I know it was set to extend because it still functioned as two different monitors (having windows open on one screen not on both)..

What about screen resolution settings? Check and see what resolution windows has the LG at, could be that you need to adjust that.

correct, 2 of them as it can work two inputs at a time (computer and and computer b) I was disappointed because I was under the impression this had DisplayPort native as well but apparently that is on the pricier model.

I sprang for the cheap one because I'm in a state of perceptual brokeness (married and have a kid) but I needed more screen real-estate as I am trying to dive in to Android App development as well as my normal work I do.
