I have had a recent interest in animating in Blender. I was thinking about making short cinematic-like trailers in SPAAAAACE. However, nothing on a proffessional scale or extreme like 5k ultrawide hd CGI pr0n. I don't know know what to expect when modeling, and I don't know how RAM, CPU, GPU, VRAM are utilized with Blender. Will I be okay with an i5 processor on LGA 1155? How much memory should I have? What should I look for in a new graphics card for use in Blender? Finally, is there any benefit with using Blender in Linux over Windows?

Thanks.

8-16gb ram, decent graphics card, but not too good (r9-280 maybe) and probably an i5 if your're not doin too intensive work. i7 if you are doing long, really graphically intensive work

Edit: Scratch the part about the i7 if your doing short trailers, get an i5 and maybe spend a little bit more on a 290

The i5 will be fine for Blender if not doing anything insanely big, however if you have or can get a supported Nvidia GPU you could use it to render, my 760 renders stuff much faster than my i7.
