infamous csgo overlay issue

alright so, i've looked around and it appears that i'm not the only one plagued by the issue and unfortunately, i can't find a fix. basically, in csgo, i've been having awful fps drops in any mode but competitive. i disabled my overlay, and holy shitballs the drops are gone. but what the fuck? i need my overlay? is anyone here familiar with this issue and is there a way to fix these drops without sacrificing my overlay? it's a constant 144fps and it drops down to 55fps and it's stuttery as fuck and i can't play during that period. for the love of god help me

Just play in windowed mode, that way you can tab out.

Why? It doesn't affect you at all unless you are using gsync. 

It will still run at 144Hz. 

If you disable the overlay and play windowed you can still use steam/browsers/anything.
