Dead Nexus 4 unroot?

Go to solution Solved by Zappy,

I had the same problem with my Nexus 4, what I did was send it in for a warranty swap. It's not an issue with root that causes this so don't worry about that.

But anyway here's a step by step guide for return to stock without a usb port. Just follow it carefully and it should work out fine.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34749844&postcount=2

so my nexus 4 got the red light of death. And I've tried pretty much everything except unrooting it.

I currently have a temp quick fix where I charge the battery(not through the usb port) with direct contact. After that I reconnect the battery and use what I assume is a extremely slow charge(1hour = -10%)

My major problem is USB has decided to kill itself somehow, rendering most unrooting solution useless.

Is there a way I can unroot it still?
and does the back of the phone need to be on for USB data to work?

Also the phone drains the battery even while completely off.

Stupid thing is, I was about to unroot it right before all this happened  =\

You would do wireless ADB to unroot it by flashing the stock firmware.

Take the back off and unplug the battery and plug it back in.

Thats what most people says that works.

I've done that, thats why I have to charge it manually. I can get the OS to boot but once it dies it will go back to the red light so i have to charge it again.

Hmm thats very strange iv not ran in to this problem with mine yet so im not sure.

Are you running a stock kernel ? i had a kernel on mine that killed my USB so i had to flash it to a different kernel then flash it back to stock when the USB worked.

If you have a stock clockworkmod image i could try that would be amazing. I've been looking everywhere for one but only googles one pops up

Edit: Also USB does not work while in the bootloader either.

Is it a software or hardware issue?

Try flashing this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2021437

Make sure you get build 37

thats the one i used when my USB messed up and from there i think used ADB to flash the stock boot.img you could just flash the whole factory image.

Nope tried both off and on.

This is getting annoying, my phone is killing itself =(

This can't be because I rooted it can it?  It must be faulty Nexus 4 right?

Iv rooted my Nexus 4 and this did not happen and im not sure about it being faulty. Try USB debugging on with that kernel and also try redownloading the USB drivers for you PC.

Also if you plan on RMAing i wouldnt while the bootloader is unlocked and rooted they wont take it. Try to fix this issue then RMA it.

Well It was charging, it got extremely hot while charging (has done this before). So I took it off to try and cool it down. It didn't. And the battery dropped like a stone.
