I currently have an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 on my i3 4360. I was wondering if it were possible to run this cooler passively and have something not explode. I use a Cooler Master Sleeve bearing 120MM at the back of my case and a Noctua P12 120MM on the front, both running at super low speeds. I use an EVGA 550W GS and my Asus 7770GHz fan does not come on until 60C. Trying to pursue a totally silent system in case this was not obvious enough.

Thanks.

TL;DR: Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 passive on an i3 4360??

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Nope, I've got one of those coolers, and the damn thing is pathetic with the fan.

What motherboard? My MSI motherboard cant set my NF-P12 to 0RPM but it can make it run low enough to report 0RPM and be silent. You'll probably have to undervolt the CPU too.

G3258 @ 4.5 | 8GB Team Vulcan RAM | 128GB Kingston V300 SSD (I didn't know what I was doing when I bought it) | MSI H81I Motherboard | Corsair H55 with Noctua NF-P12 | EVGA SSC GTX 960 4GB | OCZ 550W Fully Modular PSU with Noctua NF-A14 | Cooler Master Elite 130 (Soon to be something cool)

How does one go about doing that? Aren't voltages locked on non-K Intel chips?

Huehuehue

No.

With the fan works ok.

I've it on my R7 250 and i tried once unpluggin the fan. 99 C

Cheers

How does on simply put it on a GPU xD

I'll put it this way, the $31 Coolermaster Eclipse is better (LGA775 BTW) than the Freezer Pro 7 Rev 2.0, which for me cost $27 and is only a tad quieter than the stock Intel cooler that came with my i5 4440 for the same performance.

Undervolting is always the key to passive cooling. I've shaven 26C off one of my CPUs with a good undervolt, but let me stress: Contrary to common belief, undervolting does not necessarily entail underclocking!

For the record, I'm running a passively cooled i7-5930K at stock clock and 0.925V.

Intel Core i7-5930K | Noctua NH-D15S | ASUS X99-M WS | 32GB (4 x 8GB) G.Skill Ripjaws V 2666MHz | MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6G | Samsung 850 Pro 512GB | Seasonic 660XP2 | Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV

LG 34UM95-P w/ Ergotron MX  | O2/ODAC | Audioengine A5+ w/ AS8 | Sennheiser HD 598 | Ducky Shine 3 | Cooler Master Storm Spawn

Yeah, I felt like I should've got something different. I got mine for $19 though, I was just on a tight budget looking for a quiet cooler and it seemed like a good option.

It kind of is, but you can get better coolers for less or significantly better for just a little bit more. Even going second hand would be no loss, just a quick clean, maybe a new fan and your good to go. BTW, I asked the same question about using the FPrev2.0 passively-and later on when I tested it: 'Well, I hope that smell isn't the i5 frying'.

It wasn't-a few seconds later the computer shutdown because the CPU temp was too high, and the 250W PSU died on me-it was mounted in the top of the case and sucking all of the heat from the CPU.
