PC build advice

I've been putting together the list of parts that i will use for my PC, and I'm stuck with whether or not to change the motherboard or any other parts, mainly the motherboard, the one i currently have in my list is the Asus Maximus VI Formula ATX LGA1150 Motherboard. with the wifi card you cant go sli so you might want to consider a usb wifi card.

if for gaming you are better out for the i5-4690 (k) at the moment but this might change dual the 8 cores of the new consoles.

16gb of ram is also at the moment overkill but nice if you want to stream your gameplay.

and you might want to go to ssd if you want faster boot up times.

also you might want a few more watts if you are planning to go sli some time (this will be good but it always nice to have a psu which is not under 100% load)

 

in my opinion dont buy a keyboard/mouse for 200 plus dollars (my opinion)

overall it is pretty good

i dont have a really high standard for those but i really like and have:

sharkoon fireglider

sharkoon skiller

these are both around 20-30 euro/bucks i think these two work great for gaming but yeah those from razor are better i just think it is not worth the price and with the money you save you could even buy a ssd

i already own a 120 GB samsung 840evo ssd

2. Make sure your CPU is not to weak for GPU

3. Dont buy shitty PSUs (Cooler Master & Corsair are good if marked gold!)

look at the updated list, and how do I know if the CPU is too weak for the GPU?

Well it should have 4-8 cores and not be cheap!

 

Good: FX-83XX/i5-4XXX + GTX 970/R9 290

 

Bad: FX-63XX/i3-4XXX + Fury X/GTX 980Ti

on thing is missed in my first post is that the motherboard is way too expensive in comparison for the rest of your build. you will not get any improvement of your rig with a good motherboard. only if you really like the looks of this one you should go with this one. (most of it is covered up anyway by gpu and cpu cooler). so you might want to consider any sli capable motherboard of around 100 bucks

Did Asus patch their bios to allow use of the Haswell refresh cpu's on their z87 boards?  If not that could be an Issue, so that's something to look into.

 

Edit: Also if they did release a new bios that supports the Haswell Refresh CPU's you may need to flash the bios onto the Mobo before the CPU will even work in it.

gta 5 maxed out about 45-60+ fps (because of different scenes) on 1080p (two cards are more than good enought to play "4k") (speaking from experience

witcher wild hunt about the same (much lower vram usage) on 1080p

so mostly anything

Buying a little bit more expensive peripherals is 100% worth it. I can't tell you how many cheap mouses I broke just by playing games, not to mention keyboards of which the paint peeled off. 

 

For the best experience you'll want to go mechanical anyway, and cheap mechanical KB usually contain fake cherry MX switches. Trust me, you don't want that.

 

Good quality peripherals will not only increase comfort (and contain features like anti-ghosting which is heaven in some games), but will also last longer.

it did not even came across mu mind that this was an old z87 board.

pick another one which is z97 chipset with sli and oc possibilities these should be around 100 bucks

i partly agree with you.

 

i have got that mouse just over a year and it is just like new.

secondly if you are new with gaming (on pc) you should not invest a ton of money in a really good keyboard/mouse but rather on good hardware.

and i picked up the keyboard only recently but i like it so far. i really think this is a good NON mechanic keyboard. it has in my opinion a good travel range and you dont have to press to hard. for the rest you are totally correct

Motherboard and Power Supply are overkill, rest are fine.

 

Save money on those 2 and spend it elsewhere.

 

You can save about $60+ on the Motherboard and like $50+ on the Power Supply.

 

With money saved you can maybe find an AIO Cooler that is compatible with your case.

 

or get some green LED fans to match your case, make it light up.

 

umm, maybe get a nicer mouse and keyboard.

 

or another monitor.

 

or a headset.

 

Whatever you need.
