I'm setting up my first build and I was wondering what the best cooling for what it have would be.  I have a fractal design define r5 case. Bear in mind that I plan on installing optical drives later on, so I'll have to keep the OCC cage and the small HDD cage.

Watercooling options for my case ( I can't find air cooling): http://support.fractal-design.com/support/solutions/articles/4000038004-define-r5-water-cooling-radiator-options

thanks

PS: I live in Switzerland, so I need to import parts from neigbouring countries in the EU.

Digitec.ch has a lot of nice coolers:

All coolers with a higth up to 180 mm will fit, that's >99%.

Whats your budget?

working on it,  i use amazon deutschland because its cheaper than italy or spain's amazon

i already have a Zalman LQ-315 liquid cooler for my cpu. it's the rest i'm worried about. the rig has no airflow and the GPU has no dedicated cooling at the moment. does it need it?

Since you don't have an blower GPU cooler you need some case airflow.

At least one intake and one outtake.

How would you recommend i set up the fans then? Or could i give the GPU it's own watercooler?

Intake in the front and outtake in the back and / or top.

There are serveral ways to mount an AIO on a GPU like the bracket from Kraken. Or you can make a custom loop. Both solutions are quite expenisve and requires some skill and knowledge.

The Fractal case is amazing for cooling purposes.. it come with two fans already in the front that are fairly decent that you can use for the intake.  I think really all you need is to add an exhaust 1 - 140mm fan in the on the back and  you can add up to 3 - 140mm fans on top.  Fans with good air flow you should be fine.

Personally if you had the budget I'd do an AiO cooler for the GPU but to be honest it's not really that necessary.  I think you'd get a better performance boost if you put that money into like a 2 x 8 gb ram over the 2 x 4gb ram.  But that's just my opinion.  All in all you have a solid build.

Define cases (R4/5) are really open and the oem fans are already really good for the purpose. 2 front in, 1 rear out is normal way. But since you already have AIO for it, you don't really need any. Just have rad as rear exhaust and move both default fans as front intakes. If you feel like GPU isn't getting enough air (wouldn't really be problem), opening side panel for passive airflow might be just enough. Or adding extra fan for it, if you are really needing it.
