900 series specs question

Hi just wanted to compare the 970 to the 390 for a minute:

390 has more texture units, same clock speed,  more rops, double the memory interface and yet it hardly outperforms the nvidia, why is this? My first guess was because of nvidias optimisations etc or software but even on amd titles the nvidia card kicks through.. How? Also if someone could tell me what the superior specs i listed are useful for that would be cool. Planning on picking up the 970 btw.

Numbers in comparing GPU's never work. Just like all GHz's are not equal between processors.

Different architecture.

You can't compare the 1050MHz speed of the Fury X with the 1400MHz OC speed of the titan X.

These cards actually have similar performance at 4k.

That's why you can't compare the texture units 1 to 1.

When in doubt: C4

how do i calculate a better one then? Just benchmarks?

Benchmarks.

Don't get a 390 or even consider it, 290X's are 275$ right now for a good one get that XFX double D 1.05ghz it's the best deal, AND a hell of a card for 275.
